British Judo Welcomes Additional UK Sport Investment Ahead of LA 2028
May 07, 2026

British Judo has welcomed confirmation of additional investment from UK Sport as preparations continue for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
As part of UK Sport’s latest Annual Review process, close to £4 million of additional funding has been allocated across Olympic and Paralympic sport to strengthen medal potential and support athletes on the road to LA 2028.
British Judo’s visually impaired judo programme will receive an additional £202,500 investment, helping provide greater access to international camps and competition opportunities for athletes competing on the world stage.
Performance Director Kate Howey MBE welcomed the announcement and highlighted the importance of international exposure for the next generation of British athletes:
“This uplift in funding from UK Sport is a significant boost for our visually impaired judo programme and the athletes within it. It means more time on the mat at the right level, more international competitions, more high-quality camps, and more opportunities for athletes like Evie Gormley to test themselves against the best in the world.
“That exposure is critical. It accelerates development, builds belief, and ultimately gives us a stronger platform to deliver medals on the biggest stages.”
The investment forms part of UK Sport’s wider ambition to maintain Great Britain’s position among the world’s leading Olympic and Paralympic nations, with funding aimed at supporting emerging medal opportunities, adapting to evolving qualification systems and strengthening athlete pathways.
British Judo remains committed to building on the progress made across recent Olympic and Paralympic cycles as the programme looks ahead to Los Angeles 2028 and beyond.
