Rowena Birch to Step Down as British Judo President

British Judo can confirm that Rowena Birch will step down from her role as President at the Association’s Annual General Meeting this November, bringing to a close her five-year tenure.
Throughout her time in the role, Rowena has been a passionate ambassador for the Association and the wider judo community, representing British Judo both nationally and internationally.
Throughout her tenure, Rowena has been a visible supporter of British Judo’s members, clubs, volunteers, coaches, officials and athletes, attending events across the country and representing the Association at major European and international competitions.
Alongside her ambassadorial responsibilities, Rowena has played an important role within the governance of the Association, including chairing the Annual General Meeting and meetings of the British Judo Council.
Reflecting on her five years as President, Rowena said:
“This November at the AGM, I will be stepping down as President of British Judo. It has been a real honour to hold this position for the last 5 years.
“I would like to thank our members, volunteers, staff and clubs for allowing me celebrate, challenge and support them, both visibly and behind the scenes. I hope that I have made a difference.
“I have been proud to be an Ambassador for British Judo and I now look forward to other ways to continue my journey in the sport I love, Judo.”
British Judo would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Rowena for her commitment, dedication and service throughout her presidency and wishes her every success as she continues her journey within the sport.
The process to appoint Rowena’s successor as President of the British Judo Association will begin tomorrow, with the nomination period officially opening for eligible members who wish to put themselves forward for election.
The successful candidate will succeed Rowena following the conclusion of the British Judo Annual General Meeting in November.
