Update from the Chair of England Judo: English Open

The English Open 2026 was a proud and inspiring occasion for England Judo and for our wider judo community.

Across every category, we witnessed judo of a high technical standard, delivered with determination, discipline and respect. From emerging young athletes to experienced competitors, the spirit shown on the tatami reflected the very best of our sport. Each contest was approached with courage and integrity, embodying the values that underpin judo worldwide.

On behalf of England Judo, I extend my sincere congratulations to all judoka who competed. Your commitment to performance and continual improvement honours the traditions of our sport and strengthens its future.

We were delighted to welcome athletes, coaches and officials from across the Home Nations, alongside our international friends. Your presence reinforces the strong relationships that exist within our judo family and highlights the importance of collaboration and shared opportunity. Events such as the English Open provide a platform not only for competition, but for connection, learning and mutual respect.

The atmosphere throughout the days was exceptional. Athletes, coaches, families and supporters contributed to an environment defined by sportsmanship and encouragement. It was clear that judo continues to thrive through the collective commitment of its community.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to our Referees and Technical Officials, whose professionalism and expertise ensured the competition was conducted to the highest standards of fairness and integrity. My thanks also go to our event staff and volunteers, whose dedication behind the scenes made the successful delivery of this event possible.

The English Open continues to hold an important place within our national calendar and serves as a key opportunity for athletes to gain meaningful competitive experience. Events of this standard contribute directly to the development of our judoka, the strengthening of our competitive pathway and the continued raising of standards across England and Great Britain.

As England Judo, we remain focused on supporting our athletes, working collaboratively with our Home Nation colleagues and international partners, and ensuring that our sport continues to grow with integrity, professionalism and respect for its traditions.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the English Open 2026 such a success. We look forward to building on this momentum in the months ahead.
