Bryan and Thompson Lead GB to Best Day Yet at the 2025 World Veterans Judo Championships
November 07, 2025

Day four of the 2025 World Veterans Judo Championships brought another successful day for Great Britain, as our M7, M8, and M9 judoka delivered a series of strong performances, including two podium finishes.
Pat Bryan led the way for GB, securing a silver medal in the M9 -100kg category after an excellent day of contests. His skill and experience shone through as he battled his way to the final, narrowly missing out on the top step of the podium, achieving Great Britain’s best result of the week so far.
There was also bronze for Nigel Thompson in the M7 -100kg category, following a series of impressive victories that earned him a well-deserved place on the podium. Thompson took an early setback, losing his opening contest and being knocked into the repechage, but showed incredible heart and determination to fight his way back through to the final block, where he ultimately secured the bronze medal.
Elsewhere in the team, several athletes achieved top-seven finishes. Stephen Preece (M7 -100kg), Glen Judd (M8 -81kg), and James McKelvie (M8 +100kg) all finished 5th in their respective categories, narrowly missing out on medals after strong performances.
Meanwhile, James Waithe (M7 -100kg), Sean Doran (M7 +100kg), Joe Williams (M7 +100kg), and David McGuire (M8 +100kg) each claimed 7th-place finishes, rounding off an incredibly strong day for the GB men, marking our most successful showing of the week so far.
Congratulations to everyone who contributed to such an outstanding team performance for Great Britain.
