Visually Impaired Judo Fun in York

Sunday saw the City of York Council hold an open day to help engage with the local community and demonstrate to young people the opportunities available to them through physical activity.
There were a feast of sporting activities taking place on the day including VI judo, tennis and cricket. Over 20 families attended on the day to take part in the different sports and gain a taster of the skills required for each activity.
Hannah Reeder, Public Health Wellbeing Officer, said “It was a fantastic family inclusive event that brought all ages and varying visual impairments together through sport.”
“The Family Inclusive Day was an outstanding development occasion with loads of children and adults enjoying a wide variety of sports including judo” explained Dermot Heslop, British Judo Association Regional Development Officer.
“The children and students really enjoyed the fun interactive and inclusive judo sessions which was enhanced by the carers/enablers/parents all putting on judo suits and joining fully with the class.”
“Hopefully some of these participants will join local clubs and their schools/colleges will look at judo as an activity in their school or college to enrich the lives for all involved.”
British Judo will be launching a Judo development/inclusion at the York RI every Wednesday as a result.
