Four medals for Great Britain at IBSA São Paulo Grand Prix
July 13, 2026

Great Britain’s visually impaired squad enjoyed a successful weekend at the IBSA São Paulo Grand Prix, returning home with four medals, as they made an impressive start to the LA 2028 Paralympic qualification cycle.
Reigning World Champion Dan Powell (Ryecroft JC) claimed silver in the J1 -95kg category. Beginning his campaign in the quarter-final, Powell produced commanding performances to progress through both the quarter-final and semi-final and book his place in the final. As a precaution, he was withdrawn from the gold medal contest, securing a well-earned silver medal. Powell will next compete at the European Championships next month, where he will look to reclaim his continental title.
Evan Molloy (Devizes JC) earned Great Britain’s first medal of the competition with bronze in the J2 -81kg division. After suffering an opening-round defeat to the eventual silver medallist, Molloy showed tremendous resilience, battling his way through the repechage to secure a place on the podium.
Kirsten Taylor (Tayside JC) added another bronze in the J2 +70kg category. Taylor opened her day with a quarter-final victory before narrowly missing out in the semi-final. She responded brilliantly in the bronze medal contest, producing a composed performance to claim her first medal of the new Paralympic qualification cycle.
Dan English (Tees Valley JC) completed Great Britain’s medal haul with bronze in the J1 +95kg division. Following a quarter-final defeat, English fought back impressively through the repechage, recording two excellent victories to earn his place on the podium and make a strong start to his journey towards qualification for the LA 2028 Paralympic Games.
The four-medal haul marks an outstanding opening to the new Paralympic cycle for the Great Britain VI squad, providing plenty of momentum as the team builds towards the European Championships and the road to LA 2028.
Great Britain also enjoyed success at the Taipei Asian Open, where Cameron Charles (Camberley JC) secured a seventh-place finish in the -73kg category. The result marks his second-best international performance of the year.
