Lachlan Moorhead Added to World Championships Squad
September 14, 2026

Following his outstanding bronze medal performance in the -90kg competition at the Budapest Grand Slam in Hungary this weekend, the decision has been made to add Lachlan Moorhead to the British Judo squad for the upcoming World Championships, which will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 4th–10th October.
This selection has been made under exceptional circumstances and sits outside British Judo’s standard selection policy. However, Lachlan’s Grand Slam bronze has moved him inside the world’s top 100, meaning he now meets the IJF’s eligibility criteria for entry to the World Championships.
With Baku marking the first World Championships of the qualification period for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, it was felt that Lachlan’s performance and newly achieved world ranking warranted his inclusion in the squad.
We congratulate Lachlan on an excellent performance in Budapest and look forward to seeing him represent Great Britain in Baku.
Unfortunately, due to Chelsie Giles’ world ranking in the -57kg category dropping to 110, she has had to be withdrawn from the competition.
