Katame-waza ura-no-kata – 9 Aug 26 – Rochdale
August 9, 2026
The aim of this course is to introduce players to Katame-Waza Ura-No-Kata (Forms of Counter Techniques in Groundwork). This kata focuses on the principles of responding to and countering an opponent’s attempts to apply osaekomi-waza (hold-downs), shime-waza (strangulation techniques), and kansetsu-waza (joint locks).
Katame-Waza Ura-No-Kata consists of a structured series of techniques demonstrating effective use of timing, positioning, control, and escape, followed by the application of decisive counter-techniques. The course provides an excellent opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of ne-waza principles, tactical awareness, and their application in contest situations and self-defence.
This is a British Judo Association Licensed Coach Education Course and is worth one credit.
The course is limited to 20 places due to the size of the tatami.
Eligibility requirements:
• Current FULL BJA membership
• Minimum grade of 3rd Kyu (Green Belt)
Participants are ideally encouraged to attend with a partner to practise with; however, we will endeavour to pair up individuals where required.
