Judo & Life – 21 Jun 25 – Walsall
June 21, 2025

As judo coaches, we all instinctively know that our great sport has at least as much to offer to participants away from the mat in everyday life as it has on it, but it can sometimes be difficult to articulate exactly what this looks like.
This 3-hour BJA coach revalidation course attempts to begin to offer one possible definition. You will be taken through a simple 8-point presentation on how judo principles can be used in a school classroom context delivering any curriculum subject effectively by engaging pupils and managing their behaviour.
These principles have been tried and tested over nearly a decade with school staff in multiple contexts including primary, secondary, 16-18 colleges & initial teacher training higher education establishments. They have always been universally well received. The objective is two-fold: Because all of us need to manage our junior players’ behaviour at some level, the 8 principles, taken at face value, will hopefully be helpful to you to do this more effectively before you even get back on the mat at your club.
Secondly, and perhaps more significantly, you will be able to see ways in which you can apply similar judo principles to your own context and help those in your world who you do life with, whether that is through your own day to day work, relationships with your family, how you spend your leisure time, or whatever. I look forward to meeting you at one of the sessions.
