Nine British Judoka Set for Sarajevo European Open Challenge

Nine British judoka will compete in Bosnia and Herzegovina this weekend at the Sarajevo European Open.

Tommy Jackson (East Yorkshire JA) will compete in the -73kg category, looking to build on the momentum from his first-ever European medal after claiming bronze at the Riga Senior European Cup in March. He’ll be aiming to carry that form into Sarajevo with another strong performance.

Three British judoka will take on the -81kg division. Logan Campbell (Camberley JC) is set for just his second European event of 2026 as he continues to gain valuable experience on the senior circuit. Eryk Neumann (Hardy Spicer 83) is also continuing to establish himself at senior level this year and will be looking to keep progressing and put on a positive performance. Meanwhile, Rory Tyrrell (Camberley JC) arrives in Sarajevo after an impressive 2026 so far, having won bronze at the Riga Senior European Cup and secured a seventh-place finish at the Warsaw European Open.

Caitlin Barber (Middlesbrough JC) will compete at -48kg for the first time since 2023. After three consecutive near misses at -52kg this year, finishing fifth in Tallinn and La Nucía/Benidorm before placing seventh in Prague, she’ll be hoping the category move helps her secure a long-awaited European Open medal.

Joining her in the -48kg category is Summer Shaw (Camberley JC), who finished fifth at the Prague European Open last time out after narrowly missing out on bronze in a golden score contest. Shaw has enjoyed an impressive run of form, including a bronze medal at the Tallinn European Open, and will be looking to finish strongly in Sarajevo before making her Commonwealth Games debut for Team Scotland in just a couple of weeks’ time.

Madeleine Birri (Ealing JC) will compete in the -57kg category as she continues to build experience at senior level following a successful 2025 campaign on the junior European circuit.

Joining Birri at -57kg is Ammi Takahashi (Ealing JC), who is set for just her third European event of the year. Takahashi made an encouraging start to 2026 with a fifth-place finish at the Ljubljana European Open and will be looking to return to that level of performance this weekend.

Rounding out the British team is Maria Moss (Subarashi JC), who will compete in the -70kg category. Sarajevo will be just her second event of the year and only the third European competition of her career, providing another valuable opportunity to gain experience as she looks to claim her first European victory.

Good luck to the whole team!
