GB Squads Set for Guadalajara Grand Prix and Riga Cadet European Cup

This weekend, from 17th–19th October 2025, six of Great Britain’s elite judoka will compete at the Guadalajara Grand Prix in Mexico, while eight rising stars will take to the tatami at the Riga Cadet European Cup in Latvia.

Guadalajara Grand Prix

Finlay Allan (Camberley JC) returns to action in the -66kg category, aiming to build on the strong form he has shown throughout the year at Senior European Cups and Asian Opens. Allan will be looking to translate those performances into a standout result at Grand Prix level.

Charlie Young (Ryecroft JC) also competes in the -66kg division, fresh from the Lima Grand Prix last weekend, where he reached the Round of 16. Young will be aiming to take another step forward and secure his first top-seven Grand Prix finish of 2025.

At -90kg, Jamal Petgrave (Westcroft JC) makes his first Grand Prix appearance of the year. Petgrave has delivered strong results across Europe in 2025, including bronze medals at the Podgorica Senior European Cup and the Prague European Open, alongside a fifth-place finish at the Dubrovnik Senior European Cup.

Max Gregory (Drake JC) lines up in the -100kg category, looking to continue his excellent form and push for his first Grand Prix podium of the year after finishing seventh at the Qingdao Grand Prix just a few weeks ago.

Joining him in the same weight class, Ollie Barratt (Dragons Academy) will look to build on a series of solid results this season and add another strong performance for Great Britain in the -100kg division.

Rounding off the British squad in Mexico, Acelya Toprak (Camberley JC) continues her impressive run in the -57kg category. Since her return earlier this year, she has claimed silver at the Tallinn European Open and finished fifth at the Lima Grand Prix, narrowly missing out on a podium place. Toprak will be aiming to go one better in Guadalajara this weekend.

Riga Cadet European Cup

David Gheorghiu (Nippon Club London) competes in the -60kg category, while Alexey Pavluhin (Palavani JC) takes to the tatami at -66kg.

In the -70kg division, Luka Gigilashvili (Palavani JC) will be in action, while Nikoloz Shengelia (Palavani JC) and Lucas Iosebashvili (Palavani JC) both compete in the -81kg category.

Gheorghe Tataru (Palavani JC) will be the sole British representative in the -90kg field.

On the women’s side, Maisie Broadley (Wirral JC) steps onto the mat in the -48kg category, with Taylor Chrisp (Blyth Juno Michi) competing at -52kg.

Good luck to everyone competing this weekend!
