British Judo to host Suicide Prevention Training with Papyrus

Every year, World Suicide Prevention Day on 10th September reminds us of the power of community, compassion, and conversation. It’s a day to break the silence, reduce stigma, and take meaningful action to save lives.

For British Judo, this cause is deeply personal. Over the years, our community has sadly lost members to suicide. These losses remind us how vital it is to create a culture where people feel able to speak up, seek help, and support one another — both on and off the mat.

This year, British Judo is proud to support the cause by hosting a free 30-minute online awareness workshop, delivered by PAPYRUS, the UK’s leading charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide.

Why This Matters

Suicidal thoughts can affect anyone, at any time. Statistics show that one in four young people may experience thoughts of suicide at some point in their lives. By equipping ourselves with the knowledge and confidence to talk about suicide, we can create hope, support those who are struggling, and potentially save lives.

This short but powerful session will cover:

  • Spotting the signs that someone may be struggling

  • Starting the conversation – how to ask if someone is having thoughts of suicide

  • Where to find help – key resources and support services

  • Looking after yourself if you’re supporting others
