10 GB Judoka Ready for Action at IBSA Grand Prix in Egypt

Ten of Great Britain’s top visually impaired judoka will compete at the IBSA VI Grand Prix in Egypt early next week, taking place on Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th August.

The opening day of competition will see six GB athletes step onto the tatami.

World Championship bronze medallist and Paralympian Evan Molloy, representing Devizes JC, will take on the -81kg J2 field, arriving in Giza in outstanding form and looking to extend his remarkable run of success.

Joining him is Oxford University JC’s Miles Soloman, also a World Championship bronze medallist, who returns to competition for the first time since securing the biggest result of his career in the -70kg J2 category.

Evie Gormley of Stewart JA will compete in the -60kg J1 division, while Emily Betts from Clacton JC takes on the -60kg J2 category.

Scott Bailey, representing Chester JC, will also feature in the -70kg J1 event, making his debut at this level following promising performances at open competitions, and Priory JC’s Jimmy Alderson completes the Day 1 line-up in the -81kg J2 category.

Day 2 will see the remaining four athletes aim to close the event on a high.

Current World Champion and Paralympic silver medallist Dan Powell has medalled at each of his past fifteen events, and will lead the squad and take to the mat in the -95kg J1 category on Day 2.

In the +95kg J2 division, Jack Hodgson of Grimsby JC will look to build on his recent fifth-place finish at the 2025 VI World Championships.

Tees Valley Judo’s Dan English will compete in the +95kg J1 category, making his debut at this level, while Kirsten Taylor from Tayside JC will try to challenge for medals in the +70kg J2 division, having also claimed fifth place at the recent World Championships.

British Judo’s Paralympic Coach and Olympic Development Coach, Ian Johns said, “This will be a tough competition, but we’ve entered a strong team featuring a number of established VI athletes alongside a group of promising para potential fighters.

“Right now is an exciting time for the British Judo VI squad — we’re growing in numbers and competing at the highest levels. It’s fantastic to see our top athletes inspiring a new wave of fighters.

“A massive well done to the clubs and coaches across the country for ensuring our VI fighters have access to our wonderful sport.”

Good luck to the team!
