British Judo is thrilled to announce the appointment of Winston Gordon as its National Training Centre Coach, joining our World Class Performance Programme to support and develop the next generation of British judoka on the world stage.
A triple Olympian and one of GB Judo’s most experienced athletes, Winston Gordon brings unparalleled experience to his new role. Born in Lambeth, London, Gordon is a former European Championships bronze medallist from 2006, 2002 Commonwealth Games champion and represented Great Britain at three Olympic Games—Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, and London 2012.
Since retirement, Gordon has been coaching in Germany as the Lead Development Coach at the Olympiastützpunkt (a national centre of excellence) in Bayern, Munich – under the Bavarian Judo Association.
In his new capacity as Centre Coach, Gordon will draw on his extensive international experience to elevate performance standards and competitive readiness, as well as supporting athletes’ individual development.
Performance Director Kate Howey MBE was thrilled to complete her coaching lineup for the WCPP with the appointment of Gordon:
“Winston’s exceptional track record as both athlete and mentor makes him an ideal fit for this role. His insight, dedication, and understanding of what it takes to succeed on the world stage will be invaluable to our programme.”
Winston Gordon added:
“It’s a privilege and honour to come back where it all began and share my experience to today’s generation. I am keen to improve the GB Judo identity and that is a target for LA and onwards.”
