GB judoka Jan Gosiewski will be embarking on the Volunteer Zambia project this summer and he’s asking for your support.

Gosiewski, who represented England at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, was one of four University of Bath students selected for the project last year and he will spend three weeks (31 July – 22 August) on placement with the Zambian Judo Association (ZJA).

During his placement, he will work in villages to provide sporting opportunities for youngsters, help develop community sport programmes and mentor volunteers in coaching roles.

Gosiewski would like the support of BJA clubs and members to provide kit for Zambian judoka. It can be new, old, for any age and size.

Club and members are asked to send any kit they want to donate to:

“I know this is a big ask and at short notice. Zambia is very poor but judo is one of their podium sports.

“I think with the right support I can really have an impact out there. It’s a great opportunity to enrich lives of the less fortunate and promoting the values of our sport.

“I aim to share my experiences as a coach and international judo athlete to empower young people through sport. I hope to learn about the Zambian culture and develop my leadership skills by solving problems encountered during the introduction of the development programme.”
