Summer Shaw Returns to the Podium With Tallinn European Open Bronze

A small British squad travelled to Estonia this weekend for the Tallinn European Open, returning home with a bronze medal and a fifth-place finish.

Summer Shaw (Camberley JC) claimed bronze in the -48kg category for the second consecutive year. The result also marks her first international medal since last year’s event, following an injury sustained in July 2025 that kept her out of competition until January 2026.

Shaw opened her campaign with a victory in the Round of 16 before facing the eventual silver medallist in the quarter-final, where she was narrowly defeated and sent into the repechage.

Showing great determination, she bounced back with an impressive ippon victory to secure her place in the final block.

In the bronze medal contest, Shaw produced a dominant performance to earn her place on the podium and secure her first medal in 11 months.

With international silverware back around her neck, Shaw will now look to build on this success at the Prague European Open later this month.

Caitlin Barber (Middlesbrough JC) narrowly missed out on a medal in the -52kg category, finishing in fifth place. It marks her second consecutive fifth-place finish on the European Open circuit, following the same result at the Benidorm European Open last month.

Barber will also be in action at the Prague European Open later this month, where she will be aiming to convert her recent strong performances into a place on the podium.

Congratulations to Summer, Caitlin, and the entire British team on their performances in Tallinn!
