Success for GB at the Warsaw Veteran European Cup

It was a highly successful weekend for our veteran representatives in Poland, as they competed at the Warsaw Veteran European Cup.

Nigel Thompson (Norwich Premier JC) secured a silver medal in the M7 -100kg division. Competing across four contests, Thompson claimed three victories to earn his place on the second step of the podium. This result continues his strong run of form, following his bronze medal at the Paris Veteran World Championships at the end of 2025. We look forward to seeing where he competes next.

Craig Bowater (Samurai JC) also claimed silver, competing in the M7–9 -81kg ne-waza category. The 59-year-old won two of his four contests to secure his podium finish. This experience will be invaluable as he prepares for the upcoming Veteran World Championships in September and the European Championships in October.

David McGuire (Genki JC) took bronze in the M8 -100kg category. In a small but competitive field, McGuire delivered an excellent ippon in his second contest to secure the medal. This marks his first podium finish since taking bronze at the European Championships, following a consistent run of four top-seven finishes.

Rafal Lichodziejewski (Edinburgh Judo) finished fourth in a competitive M4 -100kg category. Competing in his first event of the year, he secured a win in his final contest and gained valuable mat time across four fights.

Well done team!
