21 of the best British University judoka will be looking to leave Coimbra, Portugal with gold at the 2018 European University Games from Monday 23 to Wednesday 25 July.
The GB team is made up of those judoka that medalled at the 2018 BUCS Judo Championships in Sheffield earlier this year.
A number of the team have not only experienced success on the domestic stage but also at international level.
At -90kg Coventry’s Jamal Petgrave has medalled multiple times at Senior and Junior European Cup level as well as winning bronze at the 2017 Junior European Championships in Maribor.
Petgrave has also had success in Portugal having won bronze at the Coimbra Junior European Cup last year.
2013 Cadet European bronze medallist Jodie Caller (-57kg) has had a good 2018 following a return from long-term injury. The University of Wolverhampton judoka has medalled at the International Kaizen Pey-Echt (gold) and International Antwerp Open (bronze) this year in addition to her BUCS silver.
Current -63kg Junior British champion Lucy Day (Birmingham) and -55 Junior British champion Mohammad Alip (Roehampton) are also among those stepping on the mat in Coimbra.
