Replacement for injured Ben Fletcher: Danny Williams is delighted to represent England at Commonwealth Games
July 20, 2014
Following yesterday’s announcement that Judoka Ben Fletcher is unable to compete at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, it has today been confirmed that Fletcher is to be replaced on England’s Judo Team by Danny Williams, who competes in the U73kg category and was a member of Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics.
Williams commented: “I’m very happy at being given the chance to fight at The Commonwealth Games. Whilst it’s not the perfect preparation, I’m always in fighting shape and I certainly believe I can challenge for a medal. I’m really looking forward to getting up to Glasgow and being a part of a multi-sport event again and soaking in the atmosphere.”
Team England Chef de Mission Jan Paterson MBE said: “We would like to welcome Danny Williams to the England team for his first Commonwealth Games. Danny is a very experienced and determined athlete, who will be looking to be very competitive here. We look forward to welcoming him to the Athletes Village and England’s Lions’ Den.”
