Reid and Petersen-Pollard strike bronze in Tajikistan

Emma Reid and Kelly Petersen-Pollard both won bronze medals at the penultimate Grand Slam event of the Paris Olympic qualification window.

Reid, competing on the final day, entered the competition seeded 4th. She overcame Karla Prodan (CRO) in the opening round before defeat in the quarter-finals to teammate and 5th seed, Natalie Powell.

Reid progressed to the Repechage when she defeated Iriskhon Kurbanbaeva (UZB) before securing bronze with victory over Patricia Sampaio (POR).

The result was Reid’s second time on a Grand Slam podium having won gold at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam in 2021.

Petersen-Pollard, who was in action on day two, secured her 4th career Grand Slam bronze medal after defeating Aina Laura Rasoanaivo-Razafy (MAD) and Shokhista Nazarova (UZB) to secure her place in the quarter-finals. 7th seed Petersen-Pollard was defeated by number 2 seed Laura Cvjetko (CRO) to progress to the Repechage where victories against Luana Carvalho (BRA) and Anka Pogacnik (SLO) in the bronze medal contest, secured the young Brits place on the podium.

There were also 5th place finishes for Natalie Powell and Jemima Yeats-Brown in the -78kg and -70kg categories respectively.

Powell topped her Pool following victory over teammate Reid before defeats to eventual gold medallist, Anna-Maria Wagner (GER) and Beata Pacut-Kloczko (POL).

Yeats-Brown also topped her Pool before semi-final and bronze medal defeats to Cvjetko and Szabina Gercsak (HUN).
