Powell and Adlington will compete on final day of Tashkent GP

Astana Grand Prix gold medallist Natalie Powell (-78kg) and Sarah Adlington (+78kg) who took fifth place last week in Kazakhstan, will both compete tomorrow at the Tashkent Grand Prix in neighbouring Uzbekistan.

The International Judo Federation (IJF) World Tour tournament opened in the Uzbek capital on Thursday. Many of the Great Britain athletes who competed in Astana chose to self fund in Tashkent, as this will give them a chance to win points towards qualification on the road to Rio. Powell’s gold last week earned her 300 points.

Below is a summary of the action so far:

Louise Renicks (-52kg) won her first round against Zhibek Kurmasheva of Kazakhstan by waza-ari and then lost on shidos to Joana Ramos of Portugal.

Meanwhile, Lewis Keeble (-66kg) lost out by waza-ari to Dzmitry Sherzan of Belarus.
