Obituary: David Lovelace

British Judo are saddened to hear that BJA Life Member, David Lovelace, Chairman of Boston Judo Club (5th Dan), passed away peacefully in his sleep aged 79.

David, known as Dave, was deeply passionate about Judo and served as Chaiman of the very successful Boston Judo Club in the Midlands, serving the local community and providing judo opportunities for judoka of all ages. He is pictured receiving both his BJA life Membership and 5th Dan certificate in 2014. Dave was a multiple County Champion and a member of the Midlands Judo team in the 1970’s when the team was full of GB Internationals. A ferocious competitor who, on retiring from competing, devoted all his energies to supporting his club as Chairman and coach until his passing.

A kind man, he will be fondly missed by all judoka that met him.

British Judo would like to pass on their condolences to Dave’s family and friends.

Dave Horton-Jones (7th Dan) British Judo National Dan Gradings Manager said: “I moved to Lincolnshire and joined the Boston Club in 1979 having already met Dave on the judo circuit. He was an inspiring character and shaped my future judo. He was extremely proud of his club and all its members past and present.”

Details of Dave’s funeral will be on the Boston Judo Club’s Facebook page and the ceremony will be live-streamed for anybody unable to attend in person.
