Kate Howey MBE Appointed Performance Director

British Judo is delighted to announce the permanent appointment of Kate Howey MBE as the new Performance Director of the World Class Performance Programme (WCPP).
One of the most decorated judoka in British Judo history, Kate brings a wealth of experience, passion, and proven leadership to the helm of the WCPP. A double Olympic medallist and former World Champion, Kate has spent the past two decades shaping the next generation of British judoka through various coaching and leadership roles within British Judo’s athlete pathway.
Her appointment follows a rigorous two-stage recruitment process, culminating in a final assessment day involving a series of interviews with three distinct panels. These panels featured representatives from Team GB, UK Sport, the UK Sports Institute (UKSI), British Judo legend Neil Adams MBE, and British Judo World Class Performance athletes and staff.
Speaking on her appointment, Kate said:
“It’s an honour and a privilege to become the permanent Performance Director of British Judo. Judo is a major part of me as a person, and has made me who I am today, for that I will be truly grateful. My intention is always to give back, and I see this as a chance to take the sport I love in a different direction.”
“I am committed to pushing our athletes to achieve their full potential on the world stage. We have a talented group of judoka, and I’m excited to lead the programme into a new era of excellence.”
British Judo Chair Gerry Gualtieri was delighted to appoint Kate into the role permanently:
