This weekend saw the first of two “Shaping The Future” Conferences take place at the British Judo Association Centre of Excellence in Walsall, led by the European Judo Union’s Coaching Expert, Hiroshi Katanishi, 8th Dan.

Over 90 eager coaches and judoka took to the mat keen to draw upon the Japanese Coach’s experience and knowledge of the sport throughout his career.

The aim of the conference was targeted at raising technical standards through the provision of quality technical programmes, appropriate grading schemes, structured competitive opportunities delivered by a technically competent, highly trained workforce.

Over the past few years, we have been aspiring to significantly raise the standards of our coaches through our coaching programmes. These programmes have produced the results that we had initially aimed for and we now have a cohort of highly qualified and passionate coaches who have the ability, skills and enthusiasm to greatly contribute to the development of the sport.

Did you miss out on this weekend’s conference? Fear not! Due to the overwhelming demand, Katanishi will be returning to the UK for a second “Shaping the Future” Conference in June, with details due to be confirmed shortly.
