Gold delight for Pre-Cadet Boys and Cadet Girls in Sheffield

It was another fantastic day of judo at the 2016 Pre-Cadet and Cadet British Championships at the English Institute of Sport, Sheffield on Sunday 4 December.

Today was all about the Pre-Cadet Boys and Cadet Girls with both sets of judoka more than matching the excitement of Saturday’s competition.

At -52kg Yasmin Javadian was going for her third Cadet title in as many years and with Junior judo on the horizon she made sure she stepped up and performed. The Coventry judoka was too strong in the prelims for her first two opponents winning both by ippon. The final against Caitlin Barber (Gateshead) was a much tighter affair where Javadian’s experience told as she won by three shidos to two.

We caught with her after she picked up her medal, this is what she had to say:

Jidel 93’s Tomi Imrie also impressed coming through a number of close fights as she made her way to the -70kg final. However she saved her best for last as she threw Holly Bentham (East Yorkshire Judo Academy/Beverley) three times on her way to securing gold.

In the Pre-Cadet Boys there was double joy for Rush Judo with lightweight golds for Lewis Fryer (-34kg) and Gergo Berendi (-38kg) while Caleb Drysdale of Erdington delighted the crowd with some big throws at -66kg as he also took home gold. Zachary Morrison also ensured that Bishop’s Stortford had three gold medals to celebrate at the weekend as he and Samantha Gipp (Cadet -40kg) both topped the podium today.
