GB Judoka set for European Junior Championships

Six GB Judo rising stars will be in action at European Junior Championships in Prague, Czech Republic, this week.

The opening day will see three British Judoka compete in the UNYP Arena. In the -52kg category Tatum Keen (Club: Bradley Stoke; Coach: Pete Douglas) enters as 8th seed alongside Charlotte Jenman (Tonbridge JC; Ben Urban). Keen recently competed at the World Junior Championships and has picked up medals at the Coimbra, Athens and Nanterre Junior European Cups this year.

Jenman meanwhile competes at her first international junior competition having impressed at cadet level this year. Jenman won bronze at the European Cadet Championships in June and recently finished 5th at the European Youth Olympic Festival.

Keen has an opening round bye and will face either Yarden Raab (ISR) or Alessia Tortorici (ITA) in the opening round. Jenman meanwhile, will face Ilayda Merve Kocyigit (TUR) in the opening round.

Following her recent gold medal at the Prague Junior European Cup, Ammi Takahashi (Jo Crowley; Ealing JC) will compete in the -57kg category. Takahashi will face Bettina Bauer (GER) in Round One.

The middleweights compete on Friday with Simone Cross (Camberley JC, Luke Preston) in action in the -70kg category and Ethan Nairne (Bradley Stoke; Pete Douglas) in the -73kg category. Cross and Nairne both recently returned from the World Junior Championships after starting the year well, picking up bronze medals at the Coimbra European Cup.

Cross has been drawn against Karla Kulic (CRO) in Round One whilst Nairne has an opening round bye and will face either Vladyslav Kazimirov (UKR) or Srdjan Pandurevic (BIH).

Another World Junior Championship representative, Ryan Rijksen-Salman (Bradley Stoke; Pete Douglas)is the sole GB competitor on the final day of the individual competition as he fights in the -90kg category.

Rijksen-Salman will face Peter Kenderesi (HUN) in the opening round.

Stefan Newbury has been selected as referee.

Preliminary Round action will start at 9:00am on Thursday, 10:00am on Friday and 11:00am on Saturday. Final Block will start at 15:00 on each day.
