Fred Itiose Clinches GB’s First Medal of the 2025 World Veterans Judo Championships

Day three of the 2025 World Veterans Judo Championships saw Great Britain claim our first medal of the competition, along with several impressive top-seven finishes.

Fred Itiose has been our standout judoka in Paris so far this week, becoming the first British athlete to medal at this year’s Veteran World Championships.

Itiose took bronze in the M6 +100kg category, demonstrating exceptional skill throughout the day. His powerful performances earned him a well-deserved place on the podium.

Elsewhere in the squad, GB athletes continued to deliver strong results.

Winnie Graham secured a superb 5th-place finish in the M6 -60kg category, narrowly missing out on a medal after an impressive run of contests.

There were also 7th-place finishes for Gary Evans in the M5 -81kg category and Bogdan Lica in the M5 +100kg division, both showing excellent form against tough opposition.

Our best wishes go to Shaun Mitty, who looked strong throughout the day and advanced to the quarter-finals before unfortunately suffering a serious injury. He is now awaiting surgery for two broken bones and a muscle tear.

We wish Shaun the very best in his recovery and hope to see him back soon.

Action continues today on Day Four of the event in Paris, with the M7, M8, and M9 athletes taking to the tatami.
