Four-Medal Haul for GB Squad at the 2026 Algiers African Open

A small British squad delivered an impressive performance at the 2026 Algiers African Open, returning home with four medals across the weekend.

Aiden Moffat (Tayside JC) led the team with gold in the -66kg category, producing a composed and dominant display throughout the day. Entering the quarter-final stage, Moffat progressed confidently through each round to take top spot on the podium. The result marks his second gold medal in as many events this month, following success at the Mandurah Oceania Open, and continues a strong run of form in 2026.

In the -60kg category, Ayoub Dafallah (Palavani JC) secured his first international medal with bronze. After a narrow golden score defeat in the quarter-final against a fellow Brit, Dafallah responded well in the repechage, working his way back into contention before delivering a controlled performance in the bronze medal contest.

Also competing at -60kg, Nordine Adrif (Garioch JC) narrowly missed out on the podium with 5th. Adrif made a strong start, defeating Dafallah in the opening round, but was later stopped by an Algerian athlete in the final block. Despite the result, he continues to build consistency at this level, adding to two seventh-place finishes earlier this year.

Daniel Pacitti (Jidel Judo 93) claimed bronze in the -73kg division to secure his first medal of the year. After progressing from the round of 16, Pacitti was edged out in the quarter-final but showed resilience to win his repechage and bronze medal contests and earn his place on the podium.

Rachael Hawkes (Camberley JC) added to her strong season with a bronze in the -70kg category. She opened her campaign in style with a 25-second ippon victory in the quarter-final. Following a semi-final disqualification, Hawkes regrouped well to deliver a dominant performance in the bronze medal match.

Congratulations to the whole team!
