British Kata Championships 2025

The National Kata Championships will take place on Saturday 6 September 2025 at St Albans Judo Club, Batchwood Golf and Sports Centre, Batchwood Drive, St Albans, Herts AL3 5XA
The event is a great opportunity for judoka to test their kata skills.
Eligibility
All competitors must have a current FULL BJA, JS, WJA, NIJF, BJC or AJA licence to enter this “closed” National Championships.
Categories
ADULTS:
- Nage-no-kata
- Katame-no-kata
- Ju-no-kata
- Kime-no-kata
- Kodokan Goshin-jutsu
- Itsutsu-no-kata
YOUTH (Under 16 years on the day):
- Nage-no-kata (first 3 sets only)
- Katame-no-kata (first 2 sets only)
- Ju-no-kata (first set only)
Youth players wishing to present other kata may enter the adult section.
Booking-In
All kata: 9.00-9.30 am.
Standards
The reference standard for all kata is the relevant Kodokan teaching film.
Strictly white judogi only.
Assessment
The IJF kata tournament marking system will not be used for this tournament.
Each technique will be scored out of 10, with 10 representing a perfect execution, and 0 given for an omitted or totally incorrect technique.
There will be additional marks out of 10 for opening and closing etiquette.
Spectators
Spectators are welcome, free of charge – you do not have to have players competing to spectate.
Please note that silence and decorum must be maintained whenever a kata is being presented.
Entry
Entry fee: Adult kata £20 per pair; Youth kata £14 per pair.
Each individual competitor is limited to entering no more than 2 kata.
Competitors are allowed to participate in each kata only once, and only in one age category per kata.
Closing date for entries: Friday 22nd August 2025.
All pairs MUST enter by the closing date so that paperwork can be prepared. NO EXCEPTIONS
