Coloured Judogi at Level 1 Competitions

Following the Judo Commission meeting in February 2025, the decision has been upheld and agreed by the commission to allow judoka at Level 1 competitions to have a choice of wearing any coloured judogi when competing, and to allow them to fight in any combination.

If a judoka decides to compete in a different coloured judogi, the trousers and jacket must be matching in colour. This also applies for judoka that decide to compete in a white judogi.

All judogi’s must comply with British Judo’s Contest Rules.

It is recommended that the organisers must provide a minimum of 2 blue and 2 white belts for the player identification in contest to avoid confusion and make it clear who the judoka are that will be competing.

Our commitment to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone in the sport is clear and we feel this is another big step forward in highlighting the inclusiveness of our sport. By allowing members to wear coloured judogi at Level 1 events, we are hoping this reduces the emotional stress of periods in sport, when previously faced with having to wear a white judogi.
