British Judoka Set for Tallinn European Open Challenge

There will be just one squad of British judoka competing internationally this weekend, with 10 seniors heading to Estonia to take on the 2026 Tallinn European Open.

Ayoub Dafallah (Palavani JC) will compete in his first European event of the year in the -60kg category, having last fought on European soil in early 2025. So far this year, Dafallah has competed at the Algiers African Open, where he secured an impressive bronze medal. Prior to that, he finished fifth at the Hong Kong Asian Open in late 2025, and he will be looking to carry that strong African Open and Asian Open form into Estonia this weekend.

Tommy Jackson (East Yorkshire JA) will take on the -73kg field, arriving off the back of his first-ever Senior European Cup medal after claiming bronze at the Riga Senior European Cup in March. This milestone result will no doubt give Jackson confidence as he heads into this week’s European Open.

Adam Stevens (Goole JC) continues what is shaping up to be an incredibly busy competition year in the -73kg division. He has already featured in three African Opens and European Opens, with more events scheduled before he heads to the Veterans World and European Championships, where he will aim to build on the success he has already experienced on the veterans circuit.

Harry Le Mare (Camberley JC) will compete in his third European Open of 2026 in the -73kg category. He will be hoping to draw on the experience gained so far this year as he looks to deliver a strong performance.

Eryk Neumann (Hardy Spicer 83) in the -81kg category continues his search for a breakthrough result at senior level as he steps up from the junior ranks, where he enjoyed considerable success in Junior European Cups. This weekend presents another valuable opportunity to test himself against high-quality opposition and gain further senior experience.

Rory Tyrrell (Camberley JC) will also fight in the -81kg division and currently holds the strongest results on European soil in 2026 within the squad. In March, he secured a bronze medal at the Riga Senior European Cup and followed it with a seventh-place finish at the Warsaw European Open. He will be aiming to add another strong result in Estonia.

Jared Sey (Budokwai) will compete in the -90kg category, continuing what has been a busy 10 months of international competition. The 29-year-old will be making his seventh appearance since September 2025, when he made his international debut and claimed silver at the Port Louis African Open.

Daniel Ede (Westcroft JC) will fight in the +100kg category as he continues to establish himself on the senior European circuit. This follows a highly successful 2025 season in which he secured medals at Junior European Cups, Panamerican Opens, and a fifth-place finish at the Conegliano European Open, form that he will be eager to rediscover.

Summer Shaw (Camberley JC) returns to competition in the -48kg category for the first time since March. She has previously enjoyed success at this event, finishing fifth at the 2025 Tallinn European Open, a result that will give her confidence heading into this weekend.

Caitlin Barber (Middlesbrough JC) rounds out the squad in the -52kg category. She comes into the event following a fifth-place finish at the La Nucia European Open just weeks ago, a performance that will provide plenty of confidence as she looks to go one step further and challenge for a podium place.

Good luck to everyone competing this weekend!
