British Judo Launches Female Level 2 Coaching Bursary

British Judo is delighted to announce the launch of a new Female Coaching Bursary, providing an exciting opportunity for aspiring female coaches to develop their skills, gain qualifications and take the next step in their coaching journey.

As part of British Judo’s ongoing commitment to increasing female representation within coaching and strengthening the development pathway for women in the sport, the bursary will provide eligible female coaches with the opportunity to complete their Level 2 Judo Coach Award, a qualification that would ordinarily cost £425.

The initiative aims to remove financial barriers to progression, empower more women to pursue coaching opportunities and help develop a stronger, more diverse coaching workforce across British Judo clubs.

The bursary is open to female coaches based in England, who are looking to progress from their Level 1 qualification and further develop their knowledge, confidence and coaching expertise.

To be eligible to apply, applicants must:

  • Be female and aged 18 years or over.
  • Hold a BJA Level 1 Coaching qualification.
  • Hold a minimum grade of 1st Kyu.

The bursary will cover the £425 course fee, with successful applicants required to pay a refundable £50 deposit, which will be returned following successful completion of the course.

The Level 2 Judo Coach Award will take place at Our Lady & St. Chad Catholic Academy (WV10 8BL) in Wolverhampton, across two practical training weekends and a final assessment day.

Course dates:

  • Weekend 1: Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 February 2027
  • Weekend 2: Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 March 2027
  • Assessment Day: Sunday 25 April 2027

Applicants should ensure they are available to attend all scheduled course dates before submitting their application.

Female coaches who meet the eligibility criteria are encouraged to apply for this fantastic opportunity to further their coaching development.

The closing date for applications is Monday 16 November 2026.

Through initiatives such as the Female Coaching Bursary, British Judo is committed to creating more opportunities for women to progress within coaching, supporting their development and inspiring the next generation of female coaches and judoka.
