British Judo Coaches Nominated for UK Coaching Awards

The judo community is celebrating the nominations of two exceptional coaches, who have been shortlisted as finalists at the 2025 UK Coaching Awards.

Daniel Hankinson and Lisa Rivers have both recognised for their inspiring work within the sport.

Daniel (Keidokwai Judo Club) been named a finalist in the Community Coach of the Year (Children & Young People) category for his outstanding contribution to judo at grassroots level. His nomination recognises his commitment to nurturing young athletes, creating inclusive training environments, and supporting youngsters—including those with additional needs—to feel confident and capable in their judo journey.

Lisa (Kin Ryu Judo Club) has been shortlisted in the Talent Development Coach of the Year category. Her nomination acknowledges her leadership in developing both coaches and athletes, her tireless volunteer work across clubs and schools, and her belief in creating clear and accessible pathways for everyone to progress in judo.

Their work highlights the breadth of coaching within the sport—from community engagement to talent development—showing that judo supports participants at every stage of their journey.

While being nominated is a tremendous achievement in itself, the ceremony on 4 December will determine the winners across all categories. Regardless of the outcome, these nominations provide an excellent opportunity for the judo community to shine and for the work of its coaches to be recognised nationally.

Congratulations to both Daniel and Lisa for being selected as finalists. Their hard work and dedication reflect the very best of what coaching in judo can offer—growth, resilience, belonging and aspiration.

We look forward to celebrating their success and following the outcome of the awards next month. Stay tuned for the results, and join us in cheering them on.
