Everything You Need to Know: European Judo Championships of Uniformed Services

The inaugural European Judo Championships of Uniformed Services will take place this weekend as Great Britain hosts the brand-new event on the European Judo Union calendar at the University of Wolverhampton’s Walsall Campus.

Across 22–23 August, 88 judoka from 16 countries will compete in the first edition of the championships, with athletes representing military, police, fire, prison and other uniformed services from across Europe.

As the host nation, Great Britain will field the largest team of the competition with 27 judoka, while Austria arrives with 17 athletes and the Netherlands with 12, making them the second and third largest delegations respectively.

The field brings together a mix of experienced IJF World Tour competitors, World and European veteran medallists, and athletes who more rarely compete at an international level, providing a diverse entry for the inaugural championship. All will be aiming to make history by becoming the first European champions in the event’s history.

The championships will provide a new opportunity for members of Europe’s uniformed services to compete on a dedicated international stage, while marking the beginning of a new event on the European Judo Union calendar.
