Eight-Strong British Squad Set for Lima Grand Prix

An eight-strong British squad will compete at the Lima Grand Prix this week, with a mix of World Tour debutants, established competitors and recent medallists set to take to the tatami in Peru.
Charlie Young (Ryecroft JC) will compete in the -66kg category, looking to make a strong start to his LA 2028 Olympic qualification period this weekend.
Cameron Charles (Camberley JC) will make his IJF World Tour debut in the -73kg category. In 2026, Charles has already claimed bronze at both the Hong Kong Asian Open and Casablanca African Open, alongside a fifth-place finish at the Sarajevo Senior European Cup and seventh at the Taipei Asian Open, taking plenty of competition experience into his first World Tour event.
Rory Tyrrell (Camberley JC) returns to the IJF World Tour in the -81kg category, following his appearance at the Grand Prix Upper Austria earlier this year. Tyrrell has enjoyed a strong year so far, winning bronze at the Riga Senior European Cup and Sarajevo European Open, as well as finishing seventh at the Warsaw European Open. He will look to carry that form onto the World Tour in Lima.
Lachlan Moorhead (Penistone JC) will compete in the -90kg category for the third time this year following his move up from -81kg. With two competitions already under his belt at this weight, Moorhead will be looking to build on that experience and make a strong start to his LA 2028 Olympic qualification campaign.
Wesley Greenidge (Enfield JC) enters the +100kg category fresh from making his Commonwealth Games debut for England. He will be aiming to record his best result of the year so far and get his LA 2028 qualification period off to a positive start.
Summer Shaw (Camberley JC) will compete in the -48kg category in the second World Tour event of her career. Shaw heads to Peru just two weeks after winning bronze at her Commonwealth Games debut for Team Scotland, where she secured a medal at the Games on home soil. She has also claimed bronze at the Tallinn European Open and finished fifth at the Prague European Open this year, giving her plenty of experience and confidence heading into Lima.
Ashleigh Barnikel (Bradley Stoke JC) will also compete in the -48kg category, making her World Tour debut. Barnikel represented Team Wales at the Commonwealth Games, where she faced Shaw in her opening contest. Earlier this year, she won bronze at the Tunis African Open and finished fifth at the Mandurah Oceania Open, and will now look to make a strong impression at her first Grand Prix.
Acelya Toprak (Camberley JC) enters the -57kg category as the squad’s most recent medallist, having won gold for Team England at the Commonwealth Games two weeks ago. Toprak also finished fifth at both the European Championships and Tbilisi Grand Slam earlier this year. Returning to competition under the Great Britain flag, she will be looking to add an IJF World Tour medal to her 2026 results.
