Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games Judo: Day 1 Preview

The draws for the judo competition at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games have been confirmed, with the first of the home nations judoka set to take to the tatami on Day 1 tomorrow.
A mix of experienced Commonwealth medallists and athletes making their Games debut will be in action across the opening day’s programme, with plenty of medal opportunities on offer.
Charlie Ayre (England) will compete in the -60kg category on his Commonwealth Games debut. Receiving a bye into the quarter-finals, he will face either Winsley Gangaya (Mauritius) or Tebania Mwemwenikeaki (Kiribati) in his opening contest.
Neil MacDonald (Scotland) begins his Commonwealth Games debut in the -66kg category, where he will face Kehinde Aremu (Nigeria) in the Round of 32.
Michael Fryer (England) also makes his Commonwealth Games debut in the -66kg category. After receiving a bye into the Round of 16, he will face either Neil MacDonald (Scotland) or Kehinde Aremu (Nigeria) in his opening bout.
Joshua Bell (Wales) will make his Commonwealth Games debut in the -66kg category, taking on Felix Okoko (Kenya) in the Round of 32.
Aiden Moffat (Scotland) receives a bye into the Round of 16 in the -66kg category on his Commonwealth Games debut. Having come out of competitive retirement to earn his place in Glasgow, he will face either Joshua Bell (Wales) or Felix Okoko (Kenya) in his opening contest.
Ashleigh Barnikel (Wales) returns for her second Commonwealth Games in the -48kg category, where she will face Summer Shaw (Scotland), who is making her Commonwealth Games debut, in the quarter-finals.
Eva Ewing (Scotland) also competes in the -48kg category on her Commonwealth Games debut. Beginning in the quarter-finals, she will face Asmita Dey (India), with the winner progressing to face either Barnikel or Shaw in the semi-finals.
Lola Hodson (Wales) begins her Commonwealth Games debut in the -52kg category, taking on Priscillia Monthouel (Vanuatu) in the Round of 16.
Tatum Keen (England) also makes her Commonwealth Games debut in the -52kg category. Receiving a bye into the quarter-finals, she will face either Sarah Marie Sylva Rioux (Mauritius) or Pemphero Tayali (Malawi) in her opening contest.
Acelya Toprak (England) returns to the Commonwealth Games in the -57kg category after claiming silver at Birmingham 2022. Receiving a bye into the quarter-finals, she will face either Eritabeta Kourabi (Kiribati) or Kaina Delrieu (Vanuatu) in her opening contest.
Lele Nairne (England) returns to Commonwealth Games action in the -57kg category after finishing fifth at Birmingham 2022. Receiving a bye into the quarter-finals, she will face Marie Begue (Mauritius) in her opening bout.
