BJA Safeguarding Conference 2026 – 8 Oct 26

Date/Times: 8th October 2026 – 10:00-15:30 via Microsoft Teams

Who can attend: Anyone with interest including external stakeholders (CWO & DSL’s please book on the 6th October conference instead).

Given all the developments re online safety & update re child/adult exploitation and following attendance by BJA at Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Disruption Conference in February 2026 (NPCC Hydrant Programme & the Child Sexual Exploitation Taskforce)

The theme for this year’s BJA conference will be: Safeguarding our Sport Communities within the risks of child/adult sexual abuse and exploitation

Covering topics such as:
• Survivor perspective
• Contextual Safeguarding
• Operation Make Safe
• CSA & CSE
• Online risks & threats

The conferences will be hosted by:
Marina Dain- Safeguarding Manager at British Judo Association
Andrew Bowly- Head of Inclusion, Safeguarding & Wellbeing at British Judo Association

Schedule (TBC):

10.00-introduction (BJA SG Team)

10.15- CSE & CSA- A survivor’s experience- NWG

10.45- Contextual Safeguarding: Durham University (Professor Carlene E Firman) and work with BJA on safeguarding in Sport

12.00- Work of Hydrant Programme and Operation Makesafe – Tracey Watkinson

12.45- Panel: Q&As: Taking the learning from the morning back to our organisations

1.30-lunch

2.15- Work of policing in preventing online sexual exploitation – Olly Clark, Met Police, and Lawrence Jordan, Marie Collins Foundation

3.00- Endings (BJA SG Team)
