Team Northern Ireland Names Judo Squad for Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

Team Northern Ireland has announced a three-strong judo squad set to compete at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, featuring a trio of experienced athletes combining proven international pedigree with strong recent form.

Leading the team is Rachael Hawkes (-70kg), who returns to the Commonwealth Games four years after a narrow fifth-place finish at Birmingham 2022. Since then, Hawkes has built impressive momentum on the international circuit, securing medals across European Cups, African Opens, Panamerican Opens and Oceania Opens over the past year. Her consistency and experience position her as a strong contender as she targets a place on the podium in Glasgow.

Joining her is Joshua Green (-73kg), who also narrowly missed out on a medal in Birmingham, finishing fifth. He returns with clear intent to go one step further this time around. Over the past year, Green has claimed medals at a European Open, European Cup and Oceania Open, while also gaining valuable experience on the IJF World Tour. His continued progression and exposure at the highest level will serve him well as he looks for podium success.

Completing the line-up is Adam Hall (+100kg), who will make his Commonwealth Games debut following an impressive return to international competition. After an eight-year absence, Hall re-emerged earlier this year at the Podgorica Senior European Cup before quickly making his mark with a bronze medal at the Riga Senior European Cup just two weeks later. His rapid return to form highlights both his resilience and capability as he prepares for his first appearance on the Commonwealth stage.

Conal Heatley, Team NI chef de mission said: “Team NI has a proud record in judo at the Commonwealth Games with medals won at every Games when the sport has been included on the programme, a total of six medals across four Games since 1990,”

“We have three experienced athletes heading to Glasgow and they will undoubtedly also be challenging.

“I wish them and their coaches every success on the mat.”
