British Judoka Set for International Action in Kazakhstan and Georgia

Two small squads of British judoka are set to compete across the world this weekend, with athletes travelling to both the Qazaqstan Barysy Grand Slam and the Gori Senior European Cup.

Qazaqstan Barysy Grand Slam

Max Gregory (Drake JC) will represent Great Britain in the -100kg category in Kazakhstan, marking his second competition in as many weeks. Gregory comes into the event following a strong 7th-place finish at last weekend’s Dushanbe Grand Slam. Carrying that momentum forward, he will be aiming to build on his performance and push for an even higher placing, while continuing to gain valuable mat time. Gregory will take on Bakzhan Baitas (KAZ) in the round of 32.

Rachael Hawkes (Camberley JC) will compete in the -70kg division, where she is set to make her Grand Slam debut. Hawkes was entered into the Dushanbe Grand Slam last weekend but did not take to the mat. This weekend offers her first opportunity to compete on one of the sport’s biggest stages and gain crucial international experience. Hawkes will first face Aleksandra Kowalewska (POL) in the round of 16.

Gori Senior European Cup

Lewis Fryer (Rush Judo) returns to competition for the first time since July 2025, competing in the -66kg category. After a 10-month absence, Fryer will be looking to shake off any rust and use the event as a platform to re-establish himself, gaining important competitive experience.

Reuel O’Neal-Marshall (Ealing JC) is set to make his senior international debut in the -73kg category. Having previously competed in Europe as a junior in 2019, Marshall now steps up to the senior level and begins a busy period of competition across two weekends this month.

Sunny Doig (Just Judo Yoshin) will compete in the -63kg division, aiming to improve on her best result of the year so far, 7th place at the Riga Senior European Cup in March.

Chloe Nunn (Bishops Stortford JK) completes the British lineup in Georgia. She will be competing in her first international event in over six years, having last appeared at the Warsaw European Open in February 2026.

Good luck to all British athletes competing this weekend!
