Judo for All: Supporting the Dementia Community – 20 May 26 – Online (MS Teams)

May 20, 2026

Judo is more than just a sport; it is a community built on the principles of Mutual Welfare and Benefit. This session is designed to empower judo clubs to open their doors wider, ensuring that players living with dementia can stay on the mat and remain active in the sport they love.

We will begin by demystifying dementia, moving beyond memory loss to understand how the condition impacts sensory perception, balance, and communication. You’ll gain a foundational understanding of the common challenges faced by those living with and affected by dementia.

The core of our workshop focuses on practical, low-cost adaptations. From simplifying instructions and managing the “sensory environment” of a noisy dojo to providing better signage and supporting caregivers, you will learn that small changes make a monumental difference.

By the end of this session, your club will have the tools to foster a “Dementia Friendly” environment where every judoka feels safe, valued, and capable. Let’s work together to ensure that a diagnosis never means the end of a judo journey.

Date: Wednesday 20th May 2026 – 18:00-19:30
