Medal Success for Anderson and Seguin at the Matsuru Dutch Open Espoir

Sixteen British judoka travelled to Eindhoven, Netherlands, last week to compete at the Matsuru Dutch Open Espoir, with two GB representatives returning home with well-earned medals.

In the U18 -50kg category, Louie Seguin (Tonbridge JC) faced a huge and highly competitive field, securing an impressive silver medal. Beginning his campaign in the Round of 64, Seguin powered through his contests to reach the final, ultimately finishing as runner-up in what marks an outstanding start to 2026 for the young judoka.

This result follows Seguin’s recent success at the British Championships, where he claimed the Cadet -50kg title. It adds to an already growing list of achievements, having previously taken gold in the 2024 Pre-Cadet -38kg category.

Bronze medal success came in the U21 -60kg division, where Evan Anderson (Blyth Juno Michi) produced a strong performance throughout the day. Anderson progressed from the Round of 32 to the semi-finals and went on to secure victory in the bronze medal contest.

The result represents a positive start to the year for Anderson, placing him in good stead for the remainder of the 2026 season.

Also representing Great Britain in Eindhoven were four British referees: Paul Grady, Adam Lowe, Dave Dunsford and Joe Chraniuk, who all contributed to the event.

Well done to everyone involved in a successful weekend of international competition.
