2025 British Championships Preview: Key Details and Ones to Watch

The 2025 British Championships are set to take place this weekend, bringing together the UK’s top judokas. Here’s your guide to the weekend’s action, including how to watch, key information and competitors to keep an eye on.

As one of the premier events on the UK judo calendar, this championship is expected to draw top competitors from across the country in the Pre-Cadet, Cadet, Junior and Senior categories.

When and Where?

The event will be held on Saturday, 13 December, and Sunday, 14 December, at the David Ross Sports Village at the University of Nottingham.

With so many British judoka in great form from 2024 through to 2025, there’ll be plenty of standout performances across the weekend. Here are just a few names to look out for:

Pre-Cadet

  • Evelyn Doherty (-52kg): Last year’s champion and coming in strong after a dominant 2024 performance.

  • Daisy O’Brian (-48kg): Bronze medallist in the -44kg category last year and stepping up with good momentum.

  • Ava-Lucia Hayman (-44kg): Took silver in the -40kg category in 2024 and will be looking to push on again this weekend.

  • Bence Varga (-34kg): English Closed champion and heading into his first British Championships aiming to make an impact.

Cadet

  • Louie Seguin (-50kg): Former pre-cadet champion now stepping up a level with momentum.

  • Luka Abashidze (-73kg): Last year’s silver medallist, aiming to climb one step higher.
