Competed in the 2012 London Paralympics

Dad Terry Powell is a double Paralympic Bronze medallist

Dan was inspired to start judo by his dad, Terry Powell, a double judo Paralympic bronze medallist. Dan and his brother Marc were both members of the London 2012 Paralympic judo team, where Dan finished 7th.

In 2013 Dan stepped away from judo and returned home to Liverpool, taking up athletics as an outlet for his competitive nature. This led him to take up Para-athletics and move to the national training centre in Loughborough, where he remains today after meeting his partner, Libby Clegg.

Dan returned to judo in 2018, marking his return with a bronze medal at the IBSA Infraero De Judo Grand Prix and finished 5th at the European Championships in 2019.

Also, in 2019, Dan became a father for the first time to Edward. Away from the dojo, Dan has appeared on Ninja Warrior, the first person with a visual impairment to appear on the show.
