Escape from Kesa-Gatame using Bridge and Roll

Step 1

Push Uke away to create space.

Step 2

Keep a tight grip around their body.

Step 3

Roll Uke over onto their back.

Step 4

As Uke rolls, catch their arm and sit up into Kesa-Gatame.

Escape into Kesa-Gatame from between Uke’s legs

Step 1

Control Uke’s upper body and push down on Uke’s thigh.

Step 2

Now place your right leg over Uke’s thigh, pinning their leg to the ground.

Step 3

Bring your other leg to the left of Uke.

Step 4

Step through with right leg into Kesa-Gatame.

Ko-Uchi-Gari

Step 1

Begin with pulling Uke forward with your sleeve grip so that Uke steps forwards.

Step 2

As Uke steps forward, reap Uke’s foot using the sole of your foot close to Uke’s ankle.

Step 3

Drive backwards, pushing Uke towards the mat with your collar grip.

Step 4

Keep hold of the sleeve and use your grip on the sleeve to support Uke’s fall.

Ko-Uchi-Gari into O-Soto-Gari

Step 1

First attack with Ko-Uchi-Gari to make Uke retreat with their leg.

Step 2

Now continue to attack the same leg with O-Soto-Gari. Switch from the inside to the outside.

Step 3

Drive with your support leg and reap with your attacking leg.

Step 4

Push Uke backwards using your grip on the collar to direct the throw.

Tsuri-Komi-Goshi

Step 1

Take hold of Uke’s lapel and sleeve. Step backwards, pulling Uke towards you.

Step 2

As you turn in, keep your right arm slightly bent, lifting uke’s lapel as you do.

Step 3

Make sure you bend your knees so that you are low enough to load Uke onto your hip.

Step 4

To throw pull down with both hands, throwing Uke in a large circle over your waist.

O-Goshi

Step 1

Step backwards, pulling Uke towards you.

Step 2

Let go of your grip on the lapel and hug Uke’s waist.

Step 3

Pin Uke to your body, as you turn in, bend your knees and lift with your legs.

Step 4

Keep pulling on the sleeve to rotate your partner cleanly onto their back.

O-Uchi-Gari countered by Tsuri-Komi-Goshi

Step 1

Uke attacks with O-Uchi-Gari.

Step 2

Step back and begin to turn.

Step 3

Continue turning into Tsuri-Komi-Goshi.

Step 4

Complete the throw.

O-Uchi-Gari into Ko-Uchi-Gari

Step 1

First attack with O-Uchi-Gari.

Step 2

As Uke steps back, place your attacking foot on the ground.

Step 3

Transferring your weight onto your rear leg, attack with Ko-Uchi-Gari.

Step 4

Sweep with the sole of your foot driving Uke backwards.
