The GB WCPP introduced the WRL 16 Programme post 2017 World Championships, to support athletes who are not a member of the WCPP, but are ranked in the World Top 16 of the IJF World Ranking List (WRL)

Following the 2018 Senior European Championships, we have reviewed the athletes against the WRL 16 programme and offered the following athletes the opportunity to be a member of the WRL 16 programme:

Ashley McKENZIE              WRL 10                2018 European Bronze medallist                                 declined

Alice SCHLESINGER            WRL 15                2018 European Championships 5th place                             accepted

Ashley McKenzie has declined his place on the WRL 16 programme.

Alice Schlesinger has confirmed that she wishes to maintain her place on the WRL 16 programme.

Athletes on the WRL 16 Programme do not have to be based at the British Judo Centre of Excellence, but receive a funded comprehensive Competition and Training Camp programme in alignment to the Tokyo strategy, though will also be expected to Self-Fund to additional Competition and Training Camps as part of their own programme and will follow the published Self-Fund Criteria.

Athletes who opt for the WRL 16 Programme – Competition and Training Camp Support, will not be provided with a UK Sport Athlete Performance Award (APA).
