2017 England Programme – International Competition Guidelines

The England Programme will deliver an international competition programme in 2017 for Cadets and Juniors.

The international competition programme will be delivered via three routes:

Self-funded: whereby players are responsible for the full costs associated with travel, accommodation and entry

Part funded: whereby players are responsible for 50% of the total costs associated with travel, accommodation and entry (approx. £200)

Funded: whereby the England Programme is responsible for the majority of the cost but players will contribute an agreed standard amount per competition

1.0 Identification of players for Self-funded events:

  1. Players must meet the standard eligibility requirements to represent England/GBR and be a current member of the England Squad;
  2. Players must meet the minimum – maximum age requirements for the event.
  3. Players must have attended a minimum of 80% of England Squad sessions at the point of application;
  4. Players must be within the maximum weight tolerance 4 weeks prior to competition;
  5. Players must make an application/request for selection no later than 48 hours prior to the closing date for event registration;
  6. Where players make an application/request for selection on the day of the deadline a £25 administration charge will apply;
  7. Any required payments linked to the event will be required in full no later than 24 hours prior to travel.

2.0 Identification of players for Part-Funded events:

  1. Players must meet the standard eligibility requirements to represent England/GBR and be a current member of the England Squad.
  2. Players must meet the minimum – maximum age requirements for the event.
  3. Players must have attended a minimum of 80% of England Squad sessions.
  4. Players must be within the maximum weight tolerance 4 weeks prior to competition.
  5. Consideration of current performance profile (6 months) including GB Ranking or Ippon League (evidence of tachiwaza and newaza performances in competition).
  6. Consideration of current training status and behaviors at training days/squads.
  7. Prioritisation will be given to English players on the GB Academy and England Academy.
  8. Any required payments linked to the event will be required in full no later than 24 hours prior to travel.

3.0 Identification of players for Funded events:

  1. Players must meet the standard eligibility requirements to represent England/GBR and be a current member of the England Squad.
  2. Players must meet the minimum – maximum age requirements for the event.
  3. Players must have attended a minimum of 80% of England Squad sessions.
  4. Players must be within the maximum weight tolerance 4 weeks prior to competition.
  5. Consideration of current performance profile (6 months) including GB Ranking or Ippon League.
  6. Consideration of current training status and behaviors at training days/squads.
  7. Prioritisation will be given to English players on the World Class Performance Programme, GB Academy and England Academy.
  8. Any required payments linked to the event will be required in full no later than 24 hours prior to travel.

4.0 Additional information & considerations:

  1. Players who do not meet minimum England Squad attendance requirements may be not be considered for selection or may be de-selected.
  2. Players who are unable to demonstrate suitable weight-management linked to the England Weight Management policy may not be considered for selection or may be de-selected at any point prior to the event. (link)
  3. Players who do not meet the payment deadlines may be withdrawn/de-selected from the event and still liable for full payment.
  4. Players who become injured prior to an event will be required to communicate the injury and ability to compete to the identified England Programme point of contact.
  5. Where players have suffered a long term injury additional factors will be considered for selection including previous performances, England Squad attendances and performance behaviors.
  6. Where a player has not communicated an injury or inability to compete they may be liable for the full costs of the event.
  7. Part funded and Fully funded events will be have a limited team size due to available budget.
