2017 England Academy Player Identification – Pre Cadet, Cadet & Junior

A critical component for the success of English Judo relies on an objective approach to selection, together with a programme of continuous talent development (technical, tactical, physical, mental and lifestyle).

The England Academy programme aims to support a small number of players who have the potential to progress over the next two years, meeting the criteria to be considered for the GB Academy and/or World Class Performance Programme (WCPP).

Identification to the England Academy Programme embraces these components utilizing the following factors to support this process:

  • Physical
  • Technical against GB Trademarks
  • Mindset against the Performance Characteristics for Developing Excellence (PCDE)
  • Attendance
  • Behavior
  • Performance
  • Performance Potential

1. Eligibility

To be eligible, players must meet the following criteria:

  • Be Resident in England, born in England or have a parent born in
  • Hold a BJA license or a license of an affiliated body of judo
  • Hold a British passport
  • Hold a minimum grade of 10th Mon (green belt)
  • Born between 2002 and 1997
  • Be an existing member of the England Squad

2. Routes for identification

There are two routes to identification to gain a place on the England Academy.

2.1    Primary Identification:

2.2.1   In order to be considered players must attend and complete the England Academy Assessment day to be held in January 2017 at the British Judo Centre of Excellence.

2.2.2    The 2017 England Academy players will be identified by 20th January 2017.

2.2    Co-options onto England Talent Development programme

2.2.1  Co-option of Cadet and Junior players who have achieved a minimum of 1 x 7th place at a European Cadet/Junior Cup during the period 01/02/2017 – 30/04/2017 and a minimum of two wins.

2.2.2 In order to be considered for a Co-option the players’ coach will be required to complete and submit the England Programme Co-option form during the window (01/03/17 – 30/04/17)

2.3 Additional training opportunities

English players who do not meet Primary Identification criteria (2.1) may be invited to train at England Talent Development programme sessions at the discretion of the Coaching Team.
