The England Squad program is a development program, which aims to prepare players with the necessary technical, tactical, physical, mental and lifestyle attributes to progress through the GB Pathway onto the World Class Performance Programme (WCPP) and achieve success at senior international level.
The key objectives are:
British Judo and all the Home Nation Programmes continue to work closely together and monitor the current situation with the COVID-19 virus.
As the situation progresses, we continue to make informed decisions and will look to keep you updated as much as possible.
GB Elite Development Squad (Centralised Programme)
GB Judo have made the decision not to bring any new fighters onto the centralised programme in 2020. We understand that there will be fighters looking to attend university in the Midlands area and are hoping to gain a place on the full-time programme.
If you or a fighter you coach is planning to move to the Midlands area and is hoping to train at the British Judo Centre of Excellence, please get in contact with Tim.Ellis@britishjudo.org.uk as we want to support those fighters planning to do so as best we can.
GB Futures Programme
Due to the risks and uncertainty of international travel, we regret to announce that the 2020 GB Futures International Training Camp is cancelled. Both GB and Home Nations felt that we would not be able to mitigate safely against the risks.
Both Home Nation and GB Programmes will work to best support fighters to prepare for 2021 and progressing to Senior Judo. This will take place in different forms and likely to be more bespoke programmes aimed to provide experiences that have been missed.
GB Cadet Europeans
We will continue to monitor the Cadet Europeans and its rescheduled date in November/December.
An announcement regarding this will be released over the next few weeks.
Currently all England Judo activity has been postponed until the 31st April 2020. Following the UK Government advice and the evolving COVID-19 situation throughout the UK the decision has been taken to prolong this postpone until 30th June 2020.
This includes:
England Judo will look to replace lost training camps where possible with further detail being released once Government advice states it is safe to do so.
Please note that DiSE sessions continue to happen remotely via media platforms and athletes should contact their DiSE coaches with regards to any work required.
We will be in touch as, and when, new advice and information changes with regards to competitions and camps dated after the 30th June 2020.
