GB Heavyweight Programme
British Judo’s Heavyweight Programme is designed to identify and develop the athletes that show the potential to win medals at European, World, Olympic and Paralympic Games in the Senior men’s -100kg, men’s +100kg, women’s -78kg and women’s +78 kg categories.
The programme is run on an annual basis with athletes being identified to join the programme for 12 months at a time. Athletes are identified and invited onto the programme in January and February each year based on the Identification Procedure Document that can be found HERE.
The programme comprises of camps and competitions that have been highlighted as the best development environments for athletes likely to compete in these categories. These are a mixture of self-funded as well as WCPP funded camps and competitions.
Athletes are expected to commit to the full programme, which is subject to change depending on the standard and development needs of the individuals on the programme.
Athletes invited onto the programme may also benefit from other WCPP training opportunities at the same time such as the GB Academy, Trademark Camps or GB JNR Squad.
These programmes are designed to interlink with the hope to have maximum impact on the development needs of the individuals involved.
The WCPP is also open to Home Nation Coach recommendations and would encourage athletes likely to compete within the categories highlighted above to contact the British Judo Centre of Excellence through the contact us page on the BJA website.
