Dream Team Charity Fundraiser:
2018 Brain Tumour Charity Tournament
What we’re doing
At around lunchtime on Saturday 14th July, Deryn Allen-Dyer will be organising a ‘Dream Team’ of former International/World medalists and Olympians. This Dream Team will compete against ‘Jamie’s Kids Team’ – made up of junior judoka aged approximately 8-14 years of age.
The current Dream Team includes Neil Adams, Brian Jacks, Loretta Cussack, Nick Kokotaylo, Karina Bryant, Natalie Powell, Ashley Mckenzie, Danny Williams, John Buchanan and more!
Why we’re doing it
A former BJA judoka Jamie MacDonald, from Maesteg in Wales, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour in 2015, just one year after competing at the Commonwealth Games. Jamie lost his battle with cancer on Sunday 12th November 2017.
Deryn is helping Simon Goodman to fund raise as much as possible for the Brain Tumour Charity, in Jamie’s honour.
How you can help
If you would like to be in a team, you can either nominate yourself or be nominated by your coach/parent/judo official, saying why you think or they think you should be picked. The kids Team will be selected from all the nominations, by a panel including myself and Jamie’s younger brother Luke. And we are looking for approx. 16 young judokas from all over GB and abroad!
If you would like to help raise some money, all athletes will be asked to fund raise a small amount so you can donate prior to the event and buckets will be collecting on the day too.
All nominations should be sent to – firstname.lastname@example.org
For further information, please read a letter from Deryn attached, explaining the event and why she’s getting involved.
